The current democratic and political deterioration we are going through is simply intolerable. We have a government immersed in a process of undermining the constitution, trapped as it is in its own network of concessions and corruption; a government incapable of passing budgets and a hostage to partners whose declared goal is to do away with Spain as a nation. There is no level of government or of state institutions under this Socialist Party government that has not been impacted one way or another by a succession of constitutional wrongs, scandals, manipulations, nepotism and abuses of power that are seriously damaging our country and impoverishing our social harmony.
Democratically taking to the streets and publicly airing the indignation of citizens are not useless acts to let off steam, rather they palpably reflect the state of Spanish public opinion. These public demonstrations show that what is happening in Spain has nothing to do with normal political tussles. Rather, these rallies attest to a spirit of resistance against the abuses of the government, while calling on those who support it to reflect, as well as acting as a wake-up call to those oblivious to the current state of affairs and to mobilise the undecided. These multitudinous shows of discontent make clear to the distant and forever cautious political class in Brussels how Spain is suffering an unprecedented democratic crisis, while also exposing internationally the outright rejection Pedro Sánchez causes among a large part of his fellow citizens. A head of government who has made division among Spanish people the mark of his term of office. Likewise, these rallies serve to boost the morale of those decent people who, despite all the pressures, threats and risks to which they are subject, stand firm in defending the rule of law and freedoms.
That is why we have gathered here today. Citizens from a wide range of political persuasions who wish to make it publicly known that:
In short, we are against being turned into a banana republic. And refuse to become a Chávez-like Venezuela. We support the dignity of Spain and defend its constitution. We demand that Pedro Sánchez resign and call a general election to enable the wishes of the Spanish people to be heard and to show that there are millions of us who are determined to save Spain from a process that only offers decadence and arbitrariness and to redirect it to a shared project that is a united and constitutional Spain, home to free and equal citizens.
LONG LIVE THE KING
LONG LIVE THE ONSTITUTION
LONG LIVE SPAIN
